Movie: DOOR KI AWAAZ (1964)
Music: Ravi
Lyrics: Shakeel Badayuni.

Rafi Sahaab sings: Kya Yoo.nhi Rooth Ke Jaane Ko...

Roman Transliteration/English Translation of original lyrics:

banaa ke meraa muqaddar, bigaa.d-ne waale,
AFTER EMBELLISHING MY FATE, O ITS DESTROYER!

jawaab de, o meraa ghar ujaa.dne waale,
ANSWER! O MY HOME-WRECKER!

kyaa yoo.n hee, rooTh ke jaane ko mohabbat kee thee,
WAS IT FOR GOING AWAY IN A HUFF THAT YOU HAD LOVED?

kyaa yoo.n hee rooTh ke jaane ko, mohabbat kee thee,
WAS IT FOR GOING AWAY IN A HUFF THAT YOU HAD LOVED?

zindagi meree, miTaane ko mohabbat kee thee,
TO EFFACE MY LIFE YOU HAD LOVED,

kyaa yoo.n hee, rooTh ke jaane ko mohabbat kee thee.
WAS IT FOR GOING AWAY IN A HUFF THAT YOU HAD LOVED?

aa.nkh me.n khwaab tere, lab pe kahaanee teree
YOUR DREAMS IN THE EYES, ON THE LIPS YOUR TALE,

aa.nkh me.n, khwaab tere, lab pe kahaanee teree,
YOUR DREAM IN THE EYES, ON THE LIPS YOUR TALE,

mujhko ta.dpaatee hai, din-raat nishaanee teree,
YOUR SYMBOL AGITATES ME DAY AND NIGHT,

kyaa mujhe, tuune rulaane ko mohabbat kee thee,
WAS IT FOR MAKING ME WEEP THAT YOU HAD LOVED?

zindagi meree, miTaane ko mohabbat kee thee,
TO EFFACE MY LIFE YOU HAD LOVED,

kyaa yoo.n hee, rooTh ke jaane ko, mohabbat kee thee.
WAS IT FOR GOING AWAY IN A HUFF THAT YOU HAD LOVED?

o mujhe bhoolne waale tuu kahaa.n hai aajaa,
O MY FORGETTER, WHERE ARE YOU? COME,

o mujhe bhoolne, waale tuu kahaa.n hai aajaa,
O MY FORGETTER, WHERE ARE YOU? COME,

kyaa huee mujh se khataa, yeh toh zaraa bathlaa jaa,
WHAT MISTAKE HAVE I COMMITTED AT LEAST LET ME KNOW,

yaa yeh keh de ke dikhaane ko, mohabbat kee thee
OR DECLARE THAT JUST FOR A FACADE YOU HAD LOVED

zindagi meree miTaane ko, mohabbat kee thee,
TO EFFACE MY LIFE YOU HAD LOVED,

kyaa yoo.n hee, rooTh ke jaane ko mohabbat kee thee,
WAS IT FOR GOING AWAY IN A HUFF THAT YOU HAD LOVED?

kyaa yoo.n hee, rooTh ke jaane ko mohabbat kee thee.
WAS IT FOR GOING AWAY IN A HUFF THAT YOU HAD LOVED?

  1. Nasir Ali Sahab,

    Mazaa aa gaya.

On merely looking at you posts, I felt that I am visiting the forgotten streets of my school days. I love Rafi Sahab on such a scale.

On the day of his demise, I had wept like a small child. However I have never missed him. He is alive among his songs and I meet him daily.

That you felt that you had gone back in the gone-by era makes me still happier and one with you for we all would love to go back to those days of the Golden Era when Melody was King.
