Today, it's 31st July, 2009 and all over the world Rafi Sahaab's fans are celebrating the 29th Death Anniversay of this unsurpassed Singing Legend. "Celebrating" because Rafi Sahaab has merely left this temporary House which this world is, and transferred to the next everlasting House of the Hereafter. But behind him he has left such a vast repertoire of thousands of his songs of every genre, and of many regional languages, making this world a much happier place. Rafi Sahaab sang with the utter dedication of a professional singer, without undue regard to monetary considerations, but mixing those songs with sugar and honey that his voice was, and with humility that was borne of a saintly and philanthropic heart. Yes, his songs were the reflection of his unblemished conduct and character in day-to-day life and his kindly interaction with even the lowly and the deprived. As one of his millions fans, I take this opportunity to pray for the pious soul of Rafi Sahaab, that may he be granted the highest of the Paradise, and may his songs continue to enthrall the millions for all times to come. Amen. NASIR.
I also take this opportunity to transcribe the Acting Legend, Amitabh Bachchan's tribute to Mohammed Rafi:
AMITABH BACHCHAN’S TRIBUTE TO MOHAMMED RAFI.
Mujh ko mere baad zamaanaa dhoondhegaa, Rafi Sahaab ne kahaa thaah. Aur yeh bhee kahaa thaah ke karvaa.n guzar gayaa, ghubaar dekhte rahe. Rafi Sahaab chale gaye, aur apne peechhe chhod gaye, u.dtaa huwaa, yaado.n kaa ghubaar. Unko chaahne waalaa harr insaan, yaado.n ke uss ghubaar me.n, unhe.n dhoondh rahaa hai. Aur jab tak dunyaa rahegee tab tak, unhe.n dhoondhtaa hee rahegaa. Kyoo.n ke, aisaa fankaar ba.dee mushkil se miltaa hai, jo apne fann se apnee kalaa se, harr dil me.n ghar banaaye. Aur jab voh ghar chho.d kar jaataa hai, voh apnee jageh, yaado.n ka ek dard, ek zakhm chho.d jaataa hai. Aur jab uss dard, uss zakhm me.n Tees uThtee hai, toh dil se bas, yahee aawaaz uThtee hai:
NAA FANKAAR TUJH SA TERE BAAD AAYAA
MOHAMMED RAFI TUU BAHOT YAAD AAYA.
Indeed, Rafi sb sang many memorable songs for Amitabh. Duringhis last days, Rafi sb had become voice of Amitabh Bachchan in films like Naseeb, Parvarish,Suhag etc. So much so that, Laxmikant Pyarelal had composed tunes of scores of song to be sung by Rafi sb for Amitabh and after his death were sung by Shabbir Kumar etc. in Quli, Mard and other films.
