PHILOSOPHICAL AND DIDACTIC SONGS OF RAFI SAHAAB - FOREWORDS

PHILOSOPHICAL AND DIDACTIC SONGS OF RAFI SAHAAB:

Philosophy, it is said, is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language.  After having transliterated and translated a total of 570 solo songs of two genres: Sad and Romantic, I think, now is the time to halt for a while as far as these genres are concerned, and to foray in the field of philosophical/didactic songs of Mohammed Rafi Sahaab. These songs sing of ephemeral nature of this world, extol the virtues of mother and serving parents, true love, joys and sorrows, the negative aspects of wealth and hypocrisy, the need to get on with life despite adversity and encumbrances, plight of the poor, and the like. At the same time, in lighter vein the philosophical songs may also include motivations on how to remain young,  about  femme fatale and their tantrums and coquetry with due respects.  As usual, it will not be possible to include all those songs but just some of them, given the fact that Rafi Sahaab has sung hundreds of such songs.

What is significant here is, that without the rich, melodious voice of Rafi Sahaab and his art of couching the words with proper shades of emotions and the feel, those songs would not have survived thus far. The next posts will begin with such lyrics of the songs which have been selected randomly. I’m sure the dear visitors and readers of this Blog will relish the selection.

Warm Regards,

NASIR
