Movie: MOHABBAT ZINDAGI HAI (1966)
Lyrics: S.H. Bihari
Music: O.P. Nayyar
Romantic Rafi’s melodious appeal: Naa Jaane Kyoon Hamaare Dil Ko…
Roman Transliteration/English Translation of the original Hindi-Urdu Lyrics:
naa jaane kyoo.n,
DON’T KNOW WHY…
naa jaane kyoo.n hamaare dil ko tumne, dil nahee.n samjhaa,
DON’T KNOW WHY YOU DIDN’T CONSIDER OUR HEART A HEART,
naa jaane kyoo.n,
DON’T KNOW WHY!
yeh sheeshaa to.d Daalaa~~~,
YOU BROKE THIS GLASS….
yeh sheeshaa to.d Daalaa pyaar ke, qaabil nahee.n samjhaa,
YOU BROKE THIS GLASS, NOT CONSIDERING IT AS WORTHY OF LOVE,
naa jaane kyoo.n…
DON’T KNOW WHY!
hamaara pyaar dekho, aur hamaaraa hausala dekho,
LOOK AT OUR LOVE, AND LOOK AT OUR COURAGE,
hamaara pyaar dekho aur hamaaraa, hausala dekho,
LOOK AT OUR LOVE, AND LOOK AT OUR COURAGE,
mohabbat ka junoo.n hamm ko kahaa.n tak le chalaa dekho,
LOOK HOW FAR THE MADNESS OF LOVE HAS TAKEN US,
tum hee ne jaan le lee,
YOU TOOK THE LIFE AWAY,
tum hee ne jaan le lee aur tumeh, qaatil nahee.n samjhaa,
YOU TOOK THE LIFE AWAY, AND WE DIDN’T CONSIDER YOU A KILLER,
naa jaane kyoon,
DON’T KNOW WHY!
naa jaane kyoo.n hamaare dil ko tumne, dil nahee.n samjhaa,
DON’T KNOW WHY YOU DIDN’T CONSIDER OUR HEART A HEART,
naa jaane kyoo.n,
DON’T KNOW WHY!
ta.dap dee bhee toh aisee dee ke mushkil ho gayaa jeenaa,
YOU EXCITED SUCH EAGERNESS THAT IT’S BECOME HARD TO LIVE,
chalaaye teer voh tumne, ke chhalnee ho gayaa seenaa,
YOU SHOT SUCH ARROWS THAT THE BREAST IS FULL OF HOLES,
aur uss par yeh sitam hai,
TO TOP IT, THIS CRUELTY….
aur uss par yeh sitam hai ke hame.n, ghaayal nahee.n samjhaa,
TO TOP IT, THIS CRUELTY OF NOT CONSIDERING US AS WOUNDED,
naa jaane kyoo.n,
DON’T KNOW WHY!
naa jaane kyoo.n hamaare dil ko tumne, dil nahee.n samjhaa,
DON’T KNOW WHY YOU DIDN’T CONSIDER OUR HEART A HEART,
naa jaane kyoo.n…
DON’T KNOW WHY!
mohabbat kaa yeh jaadoo, ek din sar cha.dh ke bolegaa,
THIS LOVE’S SPELL WILL BOLDLY SHOW ITS EFFECT ONE DAY,
mohabbat kaa yeh jaadoo ek din, sar cha.dh ke bolegaa,
THIS LOVE’S SPELL WILL BOLDLY SHOW ITS EFFECT ONE DAY,
har ik aandhee har ik toofaan ko daaman me.n lelegaa,
EVERY HURRICANE, EVERY STORM, IT WILL WEATHER,
mohobbat ne kisee bhee,
LOVE HAS…, NOT A SINGLE…
mohobbat ne kisee bhee kaam ko, mushkil nahee.n samjhaa
LOVE HAS CONSIDERED NOT A SINGLE JOB AS DIFFICULT,
naa jaane kyoo.n,
DON’T KNOW WHY!
naa jaane kyoo.n hamaare dil ko tumne, dil nahee.n samjhaa,
DON’T KNOW WHY YOU DIDN’T CONSIDER OUR HEART A HEART,
naa jaane kyoo.n,
DON’T KNOW WHY!
yeh sheeshaa to.d Daalaa~~~,
YOU BROKE THIS GLASS….
yeh sheeshaa to.d Daalaa pyaar ke, qaabil nahee.n samjhaa
YOU BROKE THIS GLASS, NOT CONSIDERING IT AS WORTHY OF LOVE,
naa jaane kyoo.n..
DON’T KNOW WHY!

Lovely song....last time I had heard this song was when I had read the review of Mohabbat Zindagi hai on Memsaab's blog - (http://memsaabstory.wordpress.com/2009/10/16/mohabbat-zindagi-hai-1966/)
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me of this one.
That movie had really good songs of Rafi Sahaab. Most Welcome!
ReplyDeletei am not very familiar with the artist but it has some rich imagery. i wish i can have the copy. you may want to look at some collections of romantic song quotes in quotes from lyrics site
ReplyDeleteYes I visited your site and found interesting collections of quotes, including the romantic quotes. Please copy what you wish in these post.
ReplyDeleteThe picture in the post is that of Rajshree who was the heroine of many movies before she eloped to the USA, leaving the producers in lurch.
Please note that in the translation I have used the word "We" for the Hindi word, "Hamm". This could have been translated as 'I' by me. In other words, the word We is not plural but singular.
